Biden banned offshore drilling in a huge area of ​​the US

US President Joe Biden announced a ban on offshore oil and gas drilling along much of America’s coast just weeks before Donald Trump took office.

During his campaign, Trump promised to “untie” domestic fossil fuel production in an attempt to lower the price of gas, despite the fact that the US is already experiencing record high production.

The ban announced by Biden covers the entire Atlantic coast and the eastern part of the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the Pacific coast off California, Oregon and Washington and a section of the Bering Sea off Alaska.

It is the latest in a series of last-minute climate policy actions by the Biden administration before Trump returns to the White House.

In a statement, Biden said, “My decision reflects what coastal communities, businesses and beachgoers have known for a long time: that drilling off these coasts can cause irreversible damage to the places we cherish and is unnecessary to meet our nation’s energy needs.

“It’s not worth the risk.”
