Jose Benavidez Mr. says he wants his son David Benavidez to get credit from the fans after he “chokes out” WBA light heavyweight champion David Morrell on February 1st at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Jose Mr. feels his son, the “Mexican” monster, hasn’t been given the credit he deserves during his long 12-year career, which includes wins against the likes of Caleb, Demetrius Andrade, Oleksandr Gvozdyk and David Lemieux.
Benavidez’s resume lacks a signature win over an elite-level fighter. He has always had a massive advantage over his opponent due to his decision to fight in a division below his size for 11 years. Jose Mr. and David look like have a chip on your shoulder and seems bitter despite his success.
“Drowning” the Cuban star
Benavidez has finally moved up to 175 and is facing his first credible opponent who isn’t old or much smaller than him in Morrell (11-0, 9 KOS). It will surprise anyone that this fight will turn out.
“He was a very decorated amateur and two-division world champion. So hopefully we’ll get credit for beating a legitimate fighter,” Jose Benavidez Sr. said. Fighthype About the former Cuban amateur star, David Morrell, with experience that a fighter with many professional fights would have.

For David Benavidez to make history, he will have to beat the winner of the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol 2. He will also have to move up to Cruiserweight and defeat Jai Opetaia. That might be too much for Benavidez to pull off, and that’s assuming he’s victorious against Morrell.
“When we fought ‘Boo Boo’ (Demetrius Andrade), a lot of people said that David was going to expose himself and make him look like a fan. Now, they say the same thing about the Cuban. Oh my God, he’s so fast. That’s it . That’s it,” said Jose Sr.
Most boxing fans considered the 36-year-old Demetrius Andrade too old, inactive and small to fight the much younger and much older Benavidez. On fight night, Benavidez looked like a cruiserweight inside the ring, and there was no way he was going to beat the much smaller Andrade.
“I’m happy to hear that because it motivates us. Even David Morrell says that David fights like a robot. Walk and fight like a robot. But he forgets that he’s an AI robot, so he won’t see the punches.
“A lot of people say it’s a 50-50 fight. I don’t think so. In my opinion, we’re going to destroy this guy. David is on another level,” Benavidez Sr. said of his son.
A father’s hope
Jose Mr. he can have that loss if his son, Benavidez, loses to Morrell because this is the last of his sons to have a real career.
He has pinned his hopes on David Benavidez becoming a star, but it hasn’t happened in 12 years in the game. It was when many fighters washed up and left the sport.
