Benavidez calls for a clean fight with Morrell

David Benavidez says David Morrell has complained about drug testing for his February 1st fight and believes he doesn’t want to be tested by VADA.

Interim WBA light heavyweight champion Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) is wary, saying “regular” WBA champion Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) may be concerned that “some thing” in one of his tests.

Some fans see Benavidez’s complaints as he is building the first base for aa excuse me early on to blame a potential loss on Morrell on potential steroid use.

Only when Benaivdez mentions steroids during the build-up will people view a Morrell win with suspicion. Morrell wouldn’t even have to test positive for PEDs for people to believe he was using because of the association of steroids with his name during the build-up.

Benavidez would receive less fan reviews, and their stock wouldn’t drop so bad if they thought Morrell was dirty. It wouldn’t matter that Morrell never tested positive for a steroid. Benavidez’s mention of this during interviews would lead to the belief that Morrell was using PEDS, and taint his win.

“When he fought, look at the people he fought. They said they did VADA, and they didn’t make David Morrell do VADA,” David Benavidez told MillCity Boxing. “There were two different fighters that did it.

“He tried to do the same shit to me because we’re 13 weeks into the match. When I fought Caleb Plant, we had started testing for 14 weeks. Boo Boo Andrade 14 weeks out. How is this guy (Morrell) going into his biggest fight, and he doesn’t have to do any VADA, and he’s already accused of steroid use.

“I’m not saying he’s on steroids or anything, but since you’re not trying to do the VADA test, the shit seems a little weird. Plus, he says he’s a lab rat because he’s being tested. That’s what it is. That’s pure boxing. We’re doing VADA every week or every two weeks.

It would be better if Benavidez didn’t talk about PEDs before the fight because it seems like he’s already planning an excuse if things don’t go his way in the fight with Morrell.

“If you don’t like it, you’re probably doing something, or you’re probably a little worried that something might come up in these VADA tests,” Benavidez said. I have been tested more than anyone else at VADA, and these are facts. I have been tested over 30 times and never complained. I never said I was a lab rat.

“This guy (Morrell) barely took three tests and he says he’s a lab rat. Go watch the fights and look at the people accusing him. I was never accused of taking steroids. Then , when you watch the press conference, as soon as I said, ‘Steroids, you didn’t want to take the test,’ that’s when Luis DeCubas got up and started talking a ***. Then they left.

“So, I don’t know. You be the judge of that. I’m pointing things out to you, but you’re not going to make me look like an idiot. If there’s VADA evidence, let’s do it, and let’s be clean boxing,” he said Benavidez
