Below Deck Down Under‘s Captain Jason Chambers opens up about a recent health scare.

In a video shared via Instagram On Monday, December 16, the reality TV star revealed that a recent biopsy she had was confirmed as melanoma, a type of skin cancer.

“I’m in Australia and it was done in Bali,” Captain Jason, 52, explained in the video. “The Australian doctors here, they were not happy with what the signs were telling them to go to stage 2, which is to cut out a larger section and test the glands. So I’m waiting for the specimen to come from Bali, so it will be here this week, but I might not get it until after Christmas.”

The Australian star urged his compatriots to be very careful as the weather heats up over the next few months.

“Two out of three people suffer from melanoma. It’s a big thing. Hot weather is coming this summer, so make sure you wear a hat,” he says, noting that he never used to wear sunscreen but has now found chemical-free products. “Make sure you throw on some sunscreen, get some shade and cover up.”

In the caption of his post, Captain Jason added, “For someone who spent their life in the sun, as a child playing sports to work at sea, I thought I was resisting the harmful effects of the sun. I love the sun and its health benefits are obvious, but be wise and like everything in life, it’s about balance, pick your battles.”

“With a melanoma biopsy diagnosed, I now have to wait anxiously and what I thought was a skin spot turned in just 6 months, early detection is the key, ” he continued.

The post concluded, “So find a chemical-free sunscreen product, take shade with a hat and enjoy the sun with safety.”

Captain Jason has been in charge Below Deck Down Underwhich are tunes on Peacock, for two seasons. A third season has already been filmed.

“Season 3 has been filmed. I just know it’s in edits right now, but it’s been filmed and I can confirm that,” Jason just say Us Weekly in September. “The most information out there so far is that it has been confirmed.”

Season 2 of Below Deck Down Underbroadcast in 2023, make headlines when bosun ship Luke Jones was filmed going to bed naked with a stewardess Margot Sissonwho died at the time after an alcohol fueled night out from the crew. After a cameraman intervened, the producers made Luke leave the boat and he was moved to a hotel for the night. Eventually, Jason terminated Luke and let a flight attendant Laura Bileskaline go after she blames Margot for his exit.

The captain said Us that the scandal surrounding season 2 has led to some major changes being implemented when shooting the new season.

“There were changes for sure. I know that the policies and procedures were in place during the previous seasons, even when that happened. When production stepped in and stopped it, that showed there was a good understanding of these policies and procedures,” Jason noted. “Now for the next season, the policies and procedures were not just controlled by the production team itself. They brought in extra HR people to make sure everyone understood the black and white writing.”
