Harrison Ford is known worldwide for his roles as Han Solo in the “Star Wars” saga, as a franchise title hero “Indiana Jones”, and as Rick Deckard in the “Blade Runner” movies. He even recently entered Marvel’s cinematic universe, Take over the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross From the late William hurt in “Captain America: Brave New World.” A Ford’s acting career began in the late 1960s with an unbelieving role in the crime film “Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-round,” and in 1973, he appeared in “American Graffiti,” George Lucas, “leading the director ultimately to cast Ford in” Star Wars, “the role that would make his career.
While Ford appeared in large blocks, becoming a home name for generations of fans, much of his former “Star Wars” work was less respectful and remained largely forgotten. One such role for Ford was in a horror movie made for television that came out less than a month before Han Solo changed his life forever. May 1, 1977, saw the first appearance of “The Possessed” on NBC. He followed the supernatural horror former Catholic priest who had returned from the dead as an exorcist, investigating a school with a possession head teacher. Ford appeared not as the leader, but in a supportive role as Professor of Biology at the school. “The Possessed” was critically bent at the time of his release and, of course, was shaded quickly by Ford’s first appearance as Han Solo in “Star Wars” Three and a half weeks later.
“The Possessed” was originally intended to be a pilot for a horror series that never came from fruit. The series would probably have followed Kevin Leahy of James Farentino, the deceased priest of the film-turning-Exorcist, explaining the strange supernatural setup for this character. Obviously, with “Star Wars” again to hit screens, the film underestimated the potential of Harrison Ford’s star. Paul Winjam, the teacher played by Ford, was killed by fiery demonic powers on the way through the film when it was revealed that he had been in a romantic relationship with the possession headmistress, as well as an inappropriate relationship with a school student.
Ford’s role in “The Pumsessed” was quickly forgotten as the actor was caught to the heights of success in the same month’s “Star Wars”. The release of George Lucas’ space opera was a sweeping event like no other. By Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill was the front, For many, Han Solo Ford was the standout star. Swagger Swashbuckling proved his sea -space that the actor had the chops to be Hollywood’s leading man. After “Star Wars,” Ford would go on to play Indiana Jones in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and his sequences. Now, of course, Indiana Jones and Star Wars are a fega fega world, and both have brought Ford’s classic characters back to the big screen in recent years. It is a distant shout of playing the dying teacher in the middle of the film.
