Reached the wealthy stampede that occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy stadium on June 4 during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Victory Celebrations, BCCI Vice presideT rajeev shukla He issued a measured but emotional resource for unity, accountability and fast actions.
The tragic incident, one who turned a historical celebration into a national calamity, said that at least 11 lives and left several injuries as uncontrolled crowds increased outside the stadium. The incident deployed only one day after RCB got his first IPL title, defeating Kings punjab by six runs in a nail bite final in Ahmedabad. When the team returned to Bengaluru on a chartered flight to celebrate -with its fans, the mood throughout the city was cheerful. The day began with an official congratulatory ceremony at Vidhana Soudha, where Prime Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah and CM DK Shivakumar, honored players with Mysore Peta and Cardamom garlands: a tribute rooted in local tradition.
However, in the afternoon, scenes around the Chinnaswamy Stadium began to decide. With free entrance passes and social networks with Buzz, a multitude of dozens of tens of tens of thousands began to converge outside the stadium long before the RCB team arrived. Despite the fact that authorities canceled a bus parade planned to prevent this disaster, a stampede still exploded outside the stadium’s doors, a scenario that no one fully predicted.

Speaking to Ani, Shukla acknowledged Karnataka’s proactive steps to prevent this chaos, including the cancellation of the road. However, he admitted that the ladder and density of the crowd outside the stadium had not been planned.
“The Government stopped the road to prevent Stampede or any such situation. But a stampede was not expected to pass outside the stadium. Everyone should work together in damage control.” Declared Shukla.
Rajeev’s observations reached an emergency and collective responsibility tone, calling on all stakeholders, BCCI, state government, RCB officials and law enforcement agencies, to meet to evaluate what was happening wrong and to ensure that these tragedies never repeat. Rajeev Shukla sought to depoliticize the situation in his follow -up comments, saying:
“This can happen in any state and should not be blamed for the governing party. If this happens in a state led by BJP, we should not blame them. People were huge. I spoke to the franchise and they also did not think that such a massive crowd would meet. This incident suddenly happened.” Shukla concluded.
