The Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) is expected to apply for all tobacco, alcohol and cryptocurrency sponsorships at the next 2025 Premier League (IPL 2025). This restriction will also include indirect promotions through subrogated ads during the IPL.
The BCCI is being done to prohibit all forms of tobacco and alcohol promotions, including surrogate advertising, during the IPL after obtaining instructions from the Ministry of Health, as they requested strict restrictions on these promotions during the tournament.
The decision is expected to be formally discussed during the BCCI Apex Council meeting on March 22, just before the IPL 2025 opening match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
This decision is expected to affect several sponsorship offers, as the T20 Indian League has seen subrogated advertising based on alcohol and tobacco brands since its inception. Theme no. 9 of the council’s agenda says: “Discussion on the sponsorship of tobacco and crypto brands”.

Apart from sponsorship regulations, the BCCI will also end the places for the next Cricket Clicet World Cup of the ICC 2025, which is expected to be housed in India in October. The BCCI is expected to believe a committee dedicated to supervising the tournament organization.
The calendar and the tournament places will end in the coming months. According to PTI, the agenda also has a “discussion about LOC formation for the 2025 Women’s Women’s World Cup and discussion about the Cricket World Cup of the ICC 2025”.
In the meantime, the Apex Council will also decide the format for the 2025-26 domestic cricket season. India will host the West and South Indies -Africa in the Home Season, so it is expected that the APEX Council will select the places of these test series at the next meeting.
With the new office carriers now in charge, the BCCI will also approve changes to the authorized signatories of their bank accounts.
On the other hand, Torrent Group, an important health and energy actor, has officially assumed as the majority owner of the IPL Gujarat Titans franchise. The company has successfully completed the acquisition of a 67% participation in the team.

The transfer of ownership of Ilia Sports India Private Limited (CVC Capital) to the Torrent Group is now completed after receiving the necessary approvals. With the BCCI giving green light, the AHEDABAD company now maintains control of the franchise.
Above all, CVC acquired the Gujarat Titans by 2022 by 5,625 Crore INR, and the value of the team has since increased by 1,897 Crore INR, about 34% growth.
The Titans had an impressive start, winning the IPL title in their debut season in 2022 and ended as runners -up in 2023 under the Hardik Pandya captaincy. However, they finished eighth with only five wins last season under the captaincy of Shubman Gill.
