The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a comprehensive set of guidelines for Team India players, covering aspects such as travel, personal personnel, domestic cricket participation and conduct during tours. The transfer aims to promote professionalism, discipline and unity within the team. Violation of these rules could result in serious disciplinary action, including suspension from tournaments and deduction of match fees.
To strengthen the domestic cricket ecosystem, players are now required to participate in domestic matches to remain eligible for the national team. This mandate is designed to ensure talent development, maintain match fitness and inspire emerging players. Exceptions to this rule will only be allowed in extraordinary circumstances with the prior approval of the President of the Selection Committee.
The BCCI has highlighted the importance of traveling as a team. Recent incidents, such as players traveling separately with their families during the Australian tour, have resulted in the board not allowing individual travel arrangements unless approved by the head coach and chairman of the selection committee previously
Players will no longer be allowed to bring personal staff such as hairdressers, chefs or nannies on tours unless explicitly authorized by the BCCI. The policy aims to minimize logistical challenges and maintain focus on team operations.
Players must remain with the team until the scheduled completion of a tour or series, even if the games end early. This rule is intended to promote team bonding and avoid interruptions.
The BCCI has warned players of strict penalties for violating the guidelines. Actions may include suspension of all BCCI-run tournaments, including the IPL, and deductions from match fees or retention amounts.
A new family travel policy allows players to join their spouses and children on overseas trips that exceed 45 days. However, visits are limited to a two-week period per series and must align with the team’s schedule. Shared accommodation expenses will be covered by the BCCI, but other expenses will be borne by the player.
The BCCI stated that the guidelines are aimed at maintaining the highest standards of professionalism while ensuring operational efficiency. “This policy ensures accountability and reinforces the importance of prioritizing Indian cricket. Players are expected to strictly adhere to the rules to create an environment where they can thrive and perform at their best.” says the BCCI document.
By introducing these measures, the BCCI strives to maintain discipline, unity and focus in the Indian team, ensuring that the players live up to the expectations of a modern professional cricket team.
