BCCI announces the 94 -game IPL season from 2028

The President of the IPL, Arun Dhumal, has left a mass suggestion on the increase in the number of parties to 94 in the league. He said that although they will not add new teams to the tournament, BCCI will seriously propose a complete format at home and from the next cycle of communication rights.

The Premier League India (IPL) is, without a doubt, the largest franchise tournament in the world. Currently, the League is hosting 74 games in the season and the impact of the league is such that during the window, there are not many international games scheduled for all players to play in the league.

In recent years, there have been talks to increase the number of games to 84 in the current 2025 season. But the idea was delayed due to a programming crisis in the tournament window and the aversion of the broadcasters to too many heads.

We would like a larger window or maybe continue from 74 to 84 or 94 – Arun Dhumal

IPL President Arun Dhumal said the BCCI is looking for the opportunity to increase the number of games in the tournament. He said they are discussing things with the CPI, as well as inside BCCI, saying they are watching 94 games in a season with all teams playing at home and outside. Speaking to Espncricinfo, he said:

“ Without a doubt, it may be an opportunity. We have been discussing the ICC, we have been discussing at home in BCCI. Given how the fan interest changes in the bilateral and ICC events, with regard to the Cricket franchise and T20 Cricket, we will have to talk more seriously and see how we can create the highest value for the interested parties of the game.

“Ideally, we would like a bigger window or maybe continue between 74 and 84 or 94 at some point … so that each team arrives to play against all teams at home and outside, so you need 94 games.”

Whenever we think time is appropriate, we will make this call: Arun Dhumal with increasing IPL games

Arun Dhumal added that an increase in the number of games will not be possible in the short term, but at some point they will look at it. He also explained why they did not use the 84 -game format this year. Added:

“Given the window and the type of commitments we have in the bilateral events of Cricket and ICC, which may not be possible in the short term. But, given the landscape and how it is changing and evolving over the years, perhaps at some point, we would look and take this option.

“There has been so much cricket: we returned from Australia from a series of tests, we had this champion trophy and, in addition, we have this IPL. That is why it was decided that it does not make sense to go from 74 to 84 (in 2025), but whenever we think that time is appropriate, we will make this call.”

The ten is a good number for now: Arun Dhumal in growing teams in IPL

Arun Dhumal also added that they do not seek to increase the number of equipment in the IPL. He also expressed his gratitude to the fans for showing his love for the league.

“Ten is a good number for now,” said Dhumal. “Paramount is the interest in the tournament and the quality of the cricket we play … I do not see any short -term reach. Here, with how all this landscape evolves, we will make a call accordingly.”

“Every year, it has been growing,” said Dhumal. “We are very happy with how fans have loved this tournament and the broadcasting numbers and the numbers of the Statia are phenomenal. We hope to continue this special edition, the 18th edition. We are very sure that it will continue to grow in the way we have seen for the last 17 years.”
