BBC’s study shows a hidden death at India’s festival

The BBC Hindi investigation shows that Indian officials quietly paid compensation to families more people than they recognize, died in A, A deadly crowd crush on kumbu -mealThe Hindu Festival, which is the world’s largest religious assembly.

The official number of the dead is 37 years, but the BBC found 26 additional cases where families received partial compensation in cash, and 18 more deaths where there was no payment.

On March 25, a police officer with simple closed police from the Northern Uttar Pradesh (up) arrived in a nearby Beacher with bundles of cash.

The team visited Gopolglan City, where she met her 62-year-old Davi. They handed over to Rs 500,000 ($ 5758; £ 4.291) in cash by Dhanany Gond and asked him to record a video application.

In the video, Dhanany presents himself, saying: “My mother Tara Davi went to Kumba -Melo to the Holy Shipment. My mother died. Officers from the UE came and gave us 500,000 rupees. We got it.”

The UE government has not yet published the official list of the victims. Davi’s son Tara says the police told him that the money he received was the first party of 2.5 -meter rupees, officially promised to the victims’ families. Dhangaja says he did not receive the rest of Rs 2 m.

The UE government states that it paid for Rs 2.5 million of each family of 35 victims (out of 37 deaths, one victim remains unknown and the other does not have a legal heir). Three members of the court commission, created to investigate the incident and submit a report within a month, continued his position.

The BBC, however, found another family that received a check of Rs 2.5 million. For the rest of 35 victims, the compensation was handed over to the bank account of relatives.

In addition, the BBC found 26 cases – including Davi – where the police paid 500,000 rupees in the homes.

In many cases, officials had families who signed the documents that accused of death problems, despite the fact that they insisted that their relatives were killed in the section. (The UE Government does not usually compensate for the natural death during Kumba, which is held every 12 years.)

The BBC also confirmed 18 deaths when there was no compensation (except for the above case, where there was no legal heir).

On January 29, he also revealed evidence of four individual cases of discharge in Sigagraj, despite the statement of the chief minister of Yoga Adesianat that only one happened in what is called the “Sangam Nose” – the fusion point of the three holy rivers, gang, Yanuna and mythical Sarasvati.

A few weeks after Coombs crushed, the BBC met with more than 100 families in 11 Indian states who claimed their relatives died in the tragedy. He checked 82 deaths with all specific evidence, except in no evidence.

In some families, there is post -domesticity, Morga, death certificates, photos and videos as evidence. Reports on local BBC newspapers and talked with the district reporters to trace when the bodies were received, reflected these places, and then visited the victims.

The BBC interviewed families and eyewitnesses to restore the terms in each case – when the victims went out to the holy immersion, the time of breakdown, the coming sights, the distance from the bathing place and the immediate consequences.

From these detailed accounts appeared clear samples, which led to the face of four sections: the san nose, Jusi from the Samuudrakup chark, the araque marg and the murg murg near the gates of Kalppurk.

Most complete cases of 2.5 m-m-m-rupeur are recalculated as “Ward No. 7, Fort Contit, a vote”, approximately 1.5 km (0.9 miles) from the Sangama’s nose.

Unlike this, the cases receiving Rs 500,000 are mostly mentioned “Sector-20 or Sector-21, Kumba District, Jusi.” Some of these families claim that their relatives also died near the nose of Sangama, but their certificates are wrong quoted JHUSI – perhaps to humiliate the scale of the tragedy.

As for 18 families who did not receive compensation, it seems that there is no ordinary topic that connects them.

For example, in one place, BBC defines five organs through photos and numbers published during the formalities after death. Of these, families from three victims received 500 000 in cash and the other two received nothing. Some other families have photos from the date of disintegration that their relatives show, but these deaths have not recognized the government.

The BBC has repeatedly tried to contact government officials by sending an e -mail to the information and district magistrate. Despite the promises of the district magistrate, it was not agreed. Attempts to get to the police chief came out unanswered, while the Magaai police commissioner during the incident Tarun Gabba and the officer had Viji Kiran Anand refused to answer the questions.

The BBC also found evidence of death in the inflammation that took place elsewhere, except for Nose Sangama, which the government admitted, giving some compensation.

In Jaunpur UP, Dharmbir Radzbhar received 500,000 rupees for the death of his wife and daughter -in -law at Airavat Marg Crush.

The video shot by BBC on January 29 shows a family sitting with both bodies in place. Returning home, Rajbhar showed money packages and said: “The government promised 2.5 million rupees, but the police gave only 500,000 rupees and left.”

Police of the UE also drove hundreds of kilometers to the Bardhaman’s tailor in Western Bengal, where they handed over 500,000 Ryidas Vinodas.

But not all families accepted the amount. In Bihara, Sunaine Davi’s relatives rejected him. They said the BBC that they refused to “sign false documents”.

The BBC also identified at least five families who lost relatives at the Kalppurkha Gate, approximately 3-4 km from Sangama Nose.

Kusum Davi, the wife of Mr. Lal Sani, says her husband died around 8am on January 29. “People passed over his body. I was sitting in the sun by my corpse by 16 pm. Nobody gave us water,” she says. The family received 500,000 rupees in cash.

The relatives of all five people who died at the Kalppurk Gate had similar stories to tell – they sat with bodies from morning till evening.

Over time, 18 more families have made, saying that their relatives were killed in a blow, but they have not yet received compensation.

Among the 18 is the Pandal of Sultanapura, who was traveling to Kumbu with her husband and neighbor Archana Singh. Archana reminds that he sat with the body of the mines at the site of disintegration until 15 pm – seven hours after her breakdown.

Despite the claims of up to 2,750 CCTV, 50,000 security officers, drones and ambulances, no help came, relatives said.

In the afternoon, the body began to break up, says Arhan.

“We didn’t have anything like moving it home in our car.”

Like the family of Men Pandi, the relatives of Schiala Gonda of Deoria Up are still waiting for compensation.

His son Bhagirai Gond works as a working daily wage in Bengalur. After he was crushed, he went to the studio, looking for his father, and reached the hospital on February 3.

According to slipping from the hospital, on January 29, Schialol Gond was brought at 10.02 local time.

“My father was on the unidentified list. To keep records, they (hospital staff) kept the file. They took pictures of the body in the state that he was found and got it into the register.”

He adds: “It was difficult to identify it through the photo. After the fall, his head was tilted, his chest pushed up, and his face turned a little.”

Bhagirats says that the hospital officers will not give him death or other documents.

“They told me to take the body, but I said I would only do it if there is some official procedure,” he said.

It took four months before he received a death certificate. But he is still waiting for compensation for his loss.

“The government still has not admitted that my father had died in a crush.”
