Javier Tebas weighed in search of Nico Williams in Barcelona after Athletic Bilbao met with LaLiga to discuss the finances of the Spanish champions.
The athletic end Williams has a release clause of 58 million euros and is said to want to leave the club to join -Barça.
But with Barça still operating under a strict financial regulations, Athletic met with LaLiga on Thursday to discuss the club’s Catalan capacity to record players.
Barça had previously trouble registering players, especially Dani Olmo, but on Friday its president Joan Laporta insisted that they were Ready to find out the Williams launch clause.
Now, Tebas has said about the saga, with the President of LaLiga telling Efe Deportes: “The Atlético Club complains that Barcelona has publicly stated, if the statements attributed to DECO are true, they want to sign a player.
“According to FIFA regulations, it is in a protected period and we do not have the authority to interfere with it. What we will do, as we have always done, is that Barcelona will have to comply with the regulations to sign players, whether Nico Williams, (Erling) Haaland, (Lionel) Messi … whoever. And we will change nothing.”
Tebas referred to Laporta’s previous statements that Barça does not comply with Rule 1: 1, which requires clubs to match the money spent on new signings with salary income or savings.
“I’m not saying, the President of FC Barcelona said, they are not in Rule 1: 1,” added Tebas.
“I hope they are as soon as possible, because I wish they are all clubs. But, as I always say, Barcelona knows what to do to be in Rule 1: 1 because the regulations are already well known.
“And Athletic Club also knows what Barcelona should do, because in February we were very transparent so that no one doubts a financial game.”
