Australia’s opposition leader refused the election, promising to stop working from home options for civil servants after the backlash.
Peter Datton said Monday that his liberal-national coalition was “wrong” and apologized.
The Australians will vote in the May 3 elections, and the coalition has considered the policy within the package – including thousands of job cuts – aimed at improving efficiency in the public sector.
However, critics, including the incumbent government, said the end of work from home agreements would be disproportionate to women.
“We were mistaken and we apologized for it,” Datton told reporters at a press conference.
He said that the policy had never sent the state service to the Panciary, but accused the work of reflecting it otherwise in the “smear”.
Shadow Finance Minister Jane Yum said the coalition now did not propose to change flexible working mechanisms.
“We listened and understand that flexible work, including the work of the house, is part of getting the best from any workforce,” she said in a statement.
The coalition also clarified its proposal to reduce 41,000 jobs for public service to help finance their other promises. They have long been asked in detail what departments will be saved, and the key party suggested that there were forced dismissals on the table.
However, on Monday, Ms. Yum said that the party – if the elected – would try to reach the reduction over five years by hiring freezing and natural reduction.
She said the coalition “never” said it would be forced dismissal and “always planned to reduce the amount of public service over time.”
Datton seemed to be contrary to her, saying, “We were mistaken in this regard, and we made it clear that now, our situation.”
The Labor Government confiscated changes in policy on Monday.
“It just shows that Peter Datton is across the store. Peter Datton tries to give himself the worst rise in Australia’s history,” said Employment Minister Murray Watt.
“But the problem for him is that he can change what he says, but he can’t change who he is.”
Some government and industry leaders around the world are trying to reign to flexibility in the workplace recently.
On his first day ago, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that demands that civil servants return to the office five days a week, and companies such as Amazon also require a full -time return staff.
But the policy was unpopular in Australia, and polls show that housing problems are the main problem for most voters.
