Former cyclist of the world, Rohan Dennis, was brought out a two -year conditional term for a car incident in Australia, which killed his wife, Olympian Meliss Hoskins.
Dennis pleaded guilty of one burdened counting of the probability of damage, after Hoskins was struck by a car he was driving during the fight near the Adelaide Couples’ house in 2023.
The judge said Dennis ignored his wife’s security but was not criminal for her death.
Hoskins’ parents spoke outside the trial after the verdict, saying that the “council” had ended, and they hoped the family could “move on”.
Earlier, the court heard that Dennis and Hoskins argued about repairing the kitchen shortly before the incident took place, and Hoskins followed the car that his husband was driving when he tried to leave.
Sentencing Dennis, Judge Jan Press said that calling the incident tragic “really is not fair to sadness, longing and shock that these events brought to the lives of those who knew and loved your wife.”
He said he realized that Dennis tried to “de -escalate the argument”, going, but said it did not justify his actions.
“It was your duty to stop the vehicle when the car became dangerous for her physical well -being,” he said, said the Australian broadcast corporation (ABC).
“What you didn’t stop because they wanted to leave is a very bad reason not to do it.”
Hoskins was taken to the hospital after the impact, but later died of injuries.
Initially, Dennis was charged with dangerous car driving, causing death and driving without care, and did not plead guilty, but later he confessed to a single, smaller charge.
Dennis’s lawyer claimed that he did not intend to harm his wife and either did not know or “reckless to Hoskins holding the car.
Earlier, she said that despite her “sto” front, Dennis felt “Hlybokaje, Hlybokaje.”
On Wednesday, the Judge Press emphasized that Dennis was not criminal responsibility for causing Hoskins’s death, and admitted that he repented.
“I accept that you have a sense of responsibility for everything that has happened. I accept that you suffered from what could have been different if you acted another way,” the judge said.
In the statements about the influence of the victims, read in court last month, Hoskins said that when she accepted Dennis, intentionally harming his daughter, his character was his “fall” and “needed to decide”.
Speaking outside the trial, Peter and Amanda Hoskins said they missed the daughter “Terrible”.
“She was someone really special,” Mr. Hoskins said.
He said the family had not yet forgotten from Dennis, but is expected to “come over time.”
“It is time to move on what would be the expectations of lemon balm from us,” said Mr. Hoskins, adding that it is important for the couple to have “well-brought up relationships” with Dennis.
“In this tragedy, two young children were caught … Of course, we want to continue to be an integral part of the lives of children and their future.”
Hoskins was a cyclist of the world in the Australian team in 2015 and a two -time Olympic. Her death caused a wave of tributes from all over the world.
She and Dennis married in 2018.
Dennis retired at the end of the 2023 season after a bicycle career, in which he won the silver team of medals at the 2012 London Olympics and trial bronze in Tokyo 2020. He also won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
