Australian Prime Minister accused his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu of “denials” the consequences of the war.
On Monday, Anthony Albonez announced that his country recognizes the Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September after similar steps by the United Kingdom, France and Canada.
Albanes said that the frustration of the Israeli government played a role in this step, saying that the Australians “wanted to see murder and a cycle of violence.”
Israel, increasing pressure to end the war in Gaza, said he recognized the Palestinian state “rewarding terrorism” and Netanyahu called the decision of Australia and other allies “shameful”.
Netanyahu and his government are confronted with growing condemnation about the message of hunger in gas.
Over the last 24 hours, five people have been killed by malnutrition, including one child, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health, which has led to a total number of deaths to 222 children.
Israel denies that gas has starved and accused UN agencies of not collecting help at the borders and deliver it. The UN rejected this by saying that he was faced with obstacles and delays, collecting assistance from Israeli border areas.
Speaking to the Australian broadcast corporation on Tuesday, Albanese said he talked to Prime Minister Netanyahu last Thursday to inform him of Australia’s decision.
“The termination of the assistance we saw, and then the loss of life we see around those points of help distribution, where people standing for food and water lose their lives is simply unacceptable. And we said it,” he said.
“I talked to the Prime Minister Netanyahu. He repeated me again that he also said publicly that there should be a refusal of the consequences that are happening for innocent people.”
Earlier, Albonez stated that the decision to recognize the Palestinian state was made after receiving obligations from the Palestinian administration (PA), which controls parts of the Israeli Western shore that Hamas would not play a role in any future state
The move attracted an ambiguous response in Australia, and the Australian Jewish Executive Council called it a “betrayal”, and some Palestinian activists said it was not far enough.
Opposition leader right -wing Lei’s right support that the decision “disrespectful” for the US, a key Australian ally.
Earlier this month, Profolestin’s protest attracted at least 90,000 fans passing through the Harbar Sydney Bridge, a day after the court ruling allowed the demonstration.
At a press conference last weekend Netanyahu said it was “shameful” for countries, including Australia, to recognize the Palestinian state.
“They know what they would do if, next to Melbourne or next to Sydney, you had this terrible attack. I think you would do at least what we are doing.”
More than 61,000 people have been killed in the Israeli military campaign since October 7, according to the Ministry of Health Hamas.
On October 7, Israel launched an offensive in response to the attack under the guidance of Hamas, which killed about 1,200 people, and 251 people were taken hostage.
