Chief Travis he has been fundamental with the bat in the course Border-Gavaskar Trophyscoring 410 runs in 7 innings so far. However, in the 4th test at Melbournethe middle-order batsman proved to be a problem for the Indian team with the bowl. Head made a major breakthrough for his team as he got rid of a dangerous looking Rishabh pants who had played 104 balls before his dismissal. However, it was not Pant’s wicket but Head’s celebration that stole the limelight.
Head’s celebration came as he broke a crucial partnership for India after Tea. Pants and Yashasvi Jaiswal he had earlier halted the fall of wickets after the entire Indian top order crashed following the pattern Rohit Sharmathe exit The duo batted for an entire session after lunch, saving their wickets, but the Aussies had also stifled the runs. This proved to be too much for Pant, who tried to end the run drought and shot high to give an easy catch to Mitchell Marsh at the limit
After the breakthrough, Head celebrated his success by making a hollow shape with his left hand and putting the index finger of his other hand into it. Fans and analysts alike were baffled as to what the 31-year-old’s celebration meant. The celebration did not go down well with the Indian fans as they considered it an offensive gesture.

The real reason for Head’s celebration emerged later in the match, as India’s second innings progressed further. Channel 7 commentator James Brayshaw provided a rationale behind the part-time bowler’s out-of-the-box celebration. After taking 4/10 in 2022 against Sri Lanka, Head had joked about the need to “put your finger on ice” after his sensational spell. Brayshaw argued that it was a memory of the spell then, as Head was wicketless before that Test cricket match. His co-commentator, Greg Blewett he also had no idea about the celebration, he said, “I had no idea what it was all about, but great work by the team behind the scenes to figure it out.”
Head has become a useful bowling option apart from his batting prowess. The South Australian has taken 14 wickets and bowled 11 maiden knocks in his Test career so far. The middle-order batsman didn’t contribute much to his side’s win with the bat at the MCG, but getting a major breakthrough would have given him some form of redemption.
