Chestnut Ashley Sharpe was as surprised as Us by the Med Chicago season 10 midseason finale – and tease Sharon Goodwin’s fate will be revealed during the winter premiere.
“All the answers will be revealed,” Chestnut, 32, said exclusively Us Weekly while promoting his OWN holiday film, Nobility and Marriagewhich was performed for the first time on December 14.
The actress, who plays Dr. Naomi Howard on Med Chicagonoted that viewers will definitely find out what happened to Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) during the Wednesday, January 8, return show.
During the mid-season finale, which was broadcast on November 20Goodwin learned who her stalker was when she cornered him in the office. During their fight, Goodwin was stabbed and began to bleed out. However, he made one last effort to break free after hearing Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) outside his office door.
As the elevator door began to close, Archer saw Goodwin’s bloody run out of the room and screamed for help as the attacker came up behind her. The episode ended with Archer trying to go back up to help his friend and longtime boss.
“When I was reading it, I was like, ‘Oh no, what’s going to happen?'” Chestnut recalled to Us of learning about Goodwin’s traumatic moments in the episode. “I’m literally on the edge of my seat asking for advanced copies of scripts and they’re like ‘No.'”
Although it didn’t reach chestnuts see the scripts earlyshe said Us they were already shooting episode 14, so she knows what’s going on. “All the answers will be revealed soon,” he reiterated.
The TV star added, “There’s a lot more Naomi in what that looks like. I’m trying to be vague, but there’s a lot more to Naomi.”
Chestnut played coy about how Naomi might be involved in Goodwin’s storyline but clarified that her character will get more screen time in the second half of the season. (Chestnut joined as Naomi’s student doctor at the end of season 9 and has since become a recurring character.)
“I can tease (that) there will be some real drama that Naomi will be involved with other characters outside of Dr. Archer and Dr. Lenox (Sarah Ramos),,” he said. “That’s who Naomi is, as people are going to, (but) there will be some drama outside of those two.”
Since become part of the EDNaomi has worked closely with Archer and Lenox, who shared the duties of running the emergency department until the end of the season. At that point, Goodwin appointed Lenox (who was new to his staff this year) as the sole leader.
It was the staffing change that caused Archer to come to Goodwin’s office during the November episode as he was planning to resign.
Naomi, for her part, has been put in the middle of Lenox and Archer all season as they butt heads over how to run the ED successfully. According to Chestnut, that push and pull won’t completely go away when the show returns.
“I’m between Lenox and Dr. Archer (still). There’s a little more of that,” he shared. “And you will see a little more of the relationship between Dr. Lenox and Naomi.”
Season 10 of Med Chicago returns on NBC Wednesday, January 8, at 8 pm ET.
