Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard will not appear on Tuesday in the opening of the Champions League with Athletic Bilbao after suffering a recurrence of a shoulder injury.
Odegaard was forced during the first half of Arsenal 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest Saturday after a collision with Morgan Gibbs-White.
The Norway midfielder had been concerned about a shoulder injury before the recent international pause, and director Mikel Arteta confirmed that Odegaard had not traveled with the squad in Bilbao for the first game of the Gunners of the League phase after staying in the same area again.
Bukayo Saka stays with a problem of hamstrings, while Kai Haviertz (knee) and Gabriel Jesus (ACL) are not yet available.
In Saka, Arteta told a pre -match press conference: “I think it is still a lot to happen, very difficult to understand which week will be available.”
The Arsenal arrived in the semifinals of the Champions League last season, surpassing Real Madrid in the quarterfinals before losing in front of the possible winners Paris Saint-Germain.
Asked about the Gunners’s perspectives on this season’s competition, Arteta said: “We know it will be a really long journey. You have to give you the best opportunity to win the game.
“We are good enough for us to compete with any opposition on the day. You must have two things that you go on your way. You must have a complete template and you have to put the ball on the net when the odds come out.”
Despite his early injury problems, goalkeeper David Raya revealed that Gunners openly speak of glory to both the Premier League and the Champions League.
Arsenal has won three four wins to start the Premier League, its only loss of defeat by 1-0 against the champion of the Premier League Liverpool in Anfield.
Even with this mishap, the Gunners still dream of double.
“We are (talking about winning both),” Raya said.
“We have belief, we want to win, we are Arsenal and we play to win, this is not a doubt. This is what we play football. It’s a long journey to the Champions League and the Premier League.”
