Larry Pickett Jr.Red Blue student safety on the army football team, who helped save a man from a burning vehicle after encountering the fiery scene.
Pickett JR and his family were on the way back from lunch in New York’s Times Square on Saturday, August 30, when they saw a wrecked vehicle surrounded by collapsed power lines at Fort Montgomery, New York, about five miles south of the West Point of the Army Campus.

“Thanks Jesus this man will live to see another day!” Pickett wrote Sr. “I am so grateful for my son LJ for saving his life! Not only does he have an impact in the classroom and on the football pitch at the US military academy at West Point, but also makes a difference in his community!”
Pickett Sr. added, “This is more than an exhibition of leadership; it is a testament to the character West Point builds in – a willingness to enter the line of the fire, not only for his country, but for anyone who needs it. Seeing the courage and selflessness in direct action was truly incredible.”
In an interview with ABC11 North CarolinaPickett said Sr. that there was “no discussion” about helping the man who is ill.
“My son jumped right to act,” said Pickett Sr. “He mentioned his military training to kick in, and we pulled it out. He took care of him on the side of the road until police officers got there. And then the fire department arrived there shortly afterwards.”
Pickett Jr., who attended Enloe High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, made his first collegiate appearance on Friday, August 29, about 24 hours before tripping on the car accident.
Black army knights lost 30-27 at a double overtime to FCS Tarleton State school. Pickett JR was credited with one tackle.
Pickett JR was praised by the US military academy on Sunday, writing in Social media mail he was “proud of the heroic actions” taken by Pickett Jr. and his father.
