The Antony Brazilian striker said he rejected a Bayern Munich’s big money offer because he had already promised to return to Real Betis.
Manchester United’s 25 -year’s permanent transfer to Betis was briefly delayed on Friday, but during that time the Bayern attempted to abduct the agreement, according to his salary.
“One day before the end of the agreement, I talked to the people of the Bayern,” Antony told Cadena Cope Radio in Spain.
“But when I talked to Bayern, I told them that the agreement with Betis was 95% complete and that I would honor my word. I would do it out of respect and love and because I know that I am very happy here.
“I do not know if I was offered € 7 million (in salaries). With all the respect I have for Bayern, which is a world class club, I am comfortable with the decision I have made. I do not know what will happen in the future, but I feel very calm about the decision I have made.”
Antony’s return occurs after a loan spell on Betis in the second half of last season, where he rediscovered the form with nine goals in 26 appearances. His performances helped the club to reach the league final and also gained a memory of the Brazil national team.
Although he joined United in the summer, he was left out of Ruben Amorim’s preseason staff and was placed on the transfers. The interest came from all over Europe.
“More than five clubs called me,” said Antony. “But as I always said my first choice was Betis.”
According to reports, Betis will pay € 22 million more up to 3 million euros in wing bonuses, while United has included a 50% sale clause for any future transfer.
Antony leaves Old Trafford with 12 goals in 96 games in three seasons, after not justifying the 95 million euros quota that made it the second most expensive signing in the club after Paul Pogba.
