A group of scientists, who should work together for months at the remote Antarctic Research Station was deployed after the team member was accused of attack.
About 10 researchers usually remain in the South African base, which is about 170 km (about 105 miles) from the edge of the ice shelf and difficult to get.
But the South Africa’s government press secretary told the BBC: “A attack was attacking” after the previous charges from the camp.
Subsequently, the BBC report, the South African Ministry of Environment, said it was responsible for “maximum urgency”.
The Sunday Times South Africa, which first reported the story, said the team members had asked for escape.
The ministry also stated that the team was subject to “a number of estimates that include checking, reference checks, medical evaluation, and psychometric assessment of qualified professionals” who cleaned all members.
The research base of the Sanae IV is located more than 4000 km from the mainland South Africa, and the harsh weather indicates that scientists can be cut there for most of the year.
The current team is expected to be in the Sanae IV base by December.
South African research expeditions have been conducted since 1959. The Sanae IV base team usually consists of a doctor, two mechanics, three engineers, meteorological equipment and a couple of doctors.
These expeditions, with rigid weather conditions, which provide a long time spent in a limited space, usually pass without incidents, and team members must undergo a number of psychological estimates before traveling.
But on Sunday, Sunday Times South Africa reported that one member of the team had sent an electronic message about “deeply disturbing behavior” colleagues and “the environment of fear”.
The South African government press -secretary told the BBC that the alleged attack was caused by “a dispute over the task that the team leader wanted to make a team – a task that depends on the weather that required a change in the schedule.”
Antarctic incidents are rare but not unprecedented. In 2018, reports of a knife appeared at the Belinghausen Russian Research Station.
Psychologists indicate that insulation can exert a person’s behavior.
“One thing we know from these rare cases where something bad happens in violent isolation or capsules work is that it is often trifle, tiny things that can explode into the conflict,” said Craig Jackson, Professor of Health Psychology at the University of Birmingham, and
“Thus, questions about the hierarchy, about the distribution of load, even small things about leisure time, rations or food areas can quickly break out to become something much larger than usual,” he said BBC.
Gabriel Walker, a scientist and author who was in Antarctica expeditions, said that work in such a close proximity to a small group of colleagues had risks.
“You know exactly how they lowered their cup of coffee and in what direction the point of the handle; you know they scratch their nose three times before sitting down; you know all about them.
“And in bad circumstances it can start annoying you … Because there is nothing else – there is no other incentive and you are 24/7,” she said.
Sources in the Antarctic research community said the BBC that if necessary, South Africa had access to an ice ship and aircraft.
But any rescue surgery should fight the harsh climate, with a temperature much lower than freezing and the possibility of strong wind.
