Comedian Andy Richter steps outside his element forward Dancing with the stars.
“(This is) a completely new world,” Richter, 58, was told only Weekly US On Wednesday, September 3. “This is not, like even close to being (inside) my comfort zone. This is really different to me, and, you know, it makes me feel uncertain because I’m used to being … being judged to speak, not on moving. So it’s new.”
ABC announced earlier on Wednesday that Richter would Competing for the Mirrorball Trophy alongside pro dancer Emma Slater.
While Richter is grateful to learn from Slater, 36, he remains afraid of the potential of being hurt on the dance floor.
“It would really suck having (injury) end to (my experience),” he told Us. “Or injured Emma, that would be bad.”
Richter and Slater have already had “a few days” of practice, and the first Dump Champ is proud of their progress.
“I was so happy (when I met Andy),” Slater, who The Mirrorball last won in 2017 with Jenningsgushed to Us. “We have the same kind of energy, like, we love to chat, love to talk and I love hearing about all that (it’s done. It was really, very nice for me to get to know (him).”

Disney/Andrew EcclesAccording to Slater, Hi and Richter’s preliminary lessons have “been really great” so far.
“We’ve been doing the CHA, so it’s about introducing a dance to Andy alone,” Slater suggested. “He has a great (a) beat. (I told him,) ‘Did you know you have really good points and very good legs?’ It was, like, ‘what I didn’t know.’ It’s fun to tell him (that).
Meanwhile, Richter thinks he is still a “lump of clay” with a long way to go before his skills are worthy of a perfect score.
“She still forms me into a beautiful sculpture,” he said.
Richter and Slater will go head-to-head against stars including Jen Affleck, Dylan Efron, Corey Feldman, Alix Earle and Elaine Hendrixthe last in partnership with Slater’s Love, Alan Bersten.
“I’m so ready to support him and Elaine. I’m excited about their partnership,” he told Us on Wednesday. “And it’s the same for me and Andy. (E) Very supportive.“
As for Richter, it’s a little too soon to think about his biggest competition.
“We don’t know yet. Honestly, we haven’t seen each other,” he said. “We have obviously practiced for a few days, but many people here have not practiced (together yet).”
