Andy Muschietti shares his ideal timeline of 3 seasons: Welcome to Derry

It: Welcome to Derry is already one of our most anticipated horror projects for 2025and now we’re extra-anxious to see him knowing what director Andy Muschietti has envisioned for his future. If the HBO series is successful, he said in a recent interview, he hopes it will end in three seasons in total, with different decades breaking down the events.

It makes sense, since Pennywise (who will be played by Nosferatuby Bill Skarsgård, take over the sinister role from Muschietti’s Is it and It’s chapter two) makes its eerie presence in Derry, Maine every 27 years. Speaking the Spanish language Radio Youand signaled by Bloody Disgusting on XMuschietti set his ideal three-season arc for the story. The first season, which is on its way soon, takes place in 1962. As fans of the Musketeers movies will remember, 2017 Is it took place in 1988 and 1989, allowing for all those New Kids on the Block references. It’s chapter two then it moves forward, you-know-how-many years, catching up with the characters now adults in 2016. Stephen King’s original novel, which was released in 1986, takes place in the times of 1957-58 and 1984-85; his flashbacks help inform Welcome to DerryMuschietti’s story, but obviously some details will be changed to better fit Muschietti’s version of the universe.

This curiosity of Muschietti is more detailed than what we had before It: Welcome to Derrythe future plans of (again, only one season is guaranteed by HBO so far). The main official details – besides Skarsgård’s place in the cast – are that the show is “set in the world of Stephen King”. Is it universe; ” is based on the novel but also “broadened the vision” of Muschietti’s two films.

The rest of the cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe and Rudy Mancuso; Muschietti is among the show’s executive producers along with Jason Fuchs (who wrote the first episode) and Brad Caleb King (who co-showruns with Fuchs), and others. No word yet exactly when It: Welcome to Derry will premiere on HBO, but will be sometime in 2025.
