Sergio Mora thinks it is a “ridiculous” idea for Andre Ward, 41, to leave retirement to fight heavy weight champion Anthony Joshua. He says that Ward (32-0, 16 kos) could hurt himself to fight the champion of twice more Joshua (28-4, 25 kos) after retiring for eight years.
Ward is a former two -division world champion, winning titles in Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight. He retired in 2017 after detaining Sergey Kovalev. Although Ward had talked about wanting to return years ago, he has been chosen. Now, he seems more interested in returning if he can fight Joshua, whom he called on social media last week.
“It will be the way the smallest man will channel, Speaking of Andre Ward trying to make a fight against Anthony Joshua.
If Ward gets the fight with Joshua, he will help to cushion his retirement with the millions he would get. Could move from the fearsome and desolate of Dublin, California, in the more luxury and ultra-rich neighborhood of Atherton, California. Could live well among the upper crust with the great payment to fight AJ on a quick return to the ring.
Ward has learned that he would not have the opportunity to beat Joshua, especially at the age of 41 and to have been withdrawn for eight years. The money would be out of this good and easily the biggest payment of Ward’s career.
“It is still a much larger championship fighter and Andre Ward has retired for eight years. I could see it if so,” Mora said.
Ward would not have any chance to leave retirement and fight against the Jai Opetaia cruise champion, nor the light heaviness Dmitry Bivol, Artur Beeterbiev and David Benavidez. Collect Joshua makes an excuse to Ward to say -the fans after he loses. It was struck by a heavy weight in a division in which he had never fought.
“Boxing people have to think that Joshua is washed. You have Jake Paul thinking he has the opportunity against Aj. You have Tony Yoka, and now you are Andre Ward, eight years old withdrawn from his latest struggle at Light Heavyweight, believing that he has a chance against AJ,” said Mannix.
Not that fighters like Jake Paul, Tony Yoka and Ward see Joshua as excess. This is more money. Fighting Joshua means a mega-milion payment that you would not have to fight against other boys. It is known that AJ approaches the end of his career and wants to make the money possible before withdrawing. This has become your focus now.
“Eight years away from the ring means something. Getting in heavy weight means something. Fighting a punch like Anthony Joshua means something. His size to the weight class, it is inevitable to eat a right hand. Even against Sergey Kovalev, he ate a right hand and went down,” said Mannix.
It would be obvious that Ward would have the opportunity to survive within the ring with Joshua for more than two or three rounds in the best possible circumstances. Ward should run and retain aj. Even with the Cloquet, Ward would have a great danger of being hit by the AJ and won Aj. It is not as if it had the strength to prevent the much larger Joshua from fighting with an arm -free arm, out of its lights with both hands.
