Ananda Lewis Family and Cancer Battle: What to Know

Ananda was linked to an Oscar winner Will Smi Through her relationship with her younger brother, Harry. Harry and his twin, ElevateBorn in 1971.

“He has, from a very young age, been in great contact with his power in his body,” he explained. “When I told him (about my diagnosis), I think I’m very clear. I remember saying, ‘I have a tumor in my breast.’ He said. ‘What is a tumor?’ And I said, ‘It’s a concentration of cells that won’t die. It’s my work until I die out of my body.’ “

Ananda continued, “Langston listened to me. He knew I was going to start juice, fasting.

The former MTV VJ insisted that her son understands her diagnosis quickly even at the age of 7 because he “has always been a very smart child.”

“He took his little hand and put it on my chest. He sent healing to me,” he remembered. “He literally closed his eyes and made his little thing, that I taught him to do, on me. It was so much a moment. For me, it was really wonderful and beautiful that he didn’t go right to fear.”

“I’m excited with my health and been for four years. I still fight cancer,” he said in 2022. “Much of my time and energy and resources have to go to that.”

He went on to say, “I know that Langston has suffered in some ways, in terms of my time and availability, because of that. It’s all important.”

By 2024, Ananda Breast Cancer had moved on to Phase IV, although she chose not to have a double mastectomy and multiple chemotherapy rounds. She said ABC NEWS She made the difficult decision to surrender the treatment recommended by a doctor because of her responsibilities as a staying mother at home.

“I couldn’t treat such a serious surgery in my life then,” he said. “I was a staying mother at home (a) my son’s home education. Cancer does not come to replace all the other things you have to do. Cancer happens on top of your life. For me, it was too overwhelming at first.”

Eventually, Ananda received “fractional chemotherapy” – who said he was “10 to 20 percent” of the usual dose – and was monitored by her doctors as she pursued alternative treatments.

“Breast Cancer IV is no longer a death sentence,” he told aBC News. “Women live very good lives, and again, there are women who do everything they were supposed to do and finish Step IV anyway. So I feel if this is where I was supposed to end, this is where I’m going to end.… Every day I get, I’m grateful for.”

Ananda died at the age of 52 in June 2025.
