The rare oil portrait of India’s Indian Indian Indian Indian Gandhi’s Indian Indian Independence Auction was auctioned in London for 152,800 pounds (204,648).
The figure is much higher than the 50 000-70 000 pounds, which estimated the bonhams that estimated that the work can bring. It was drawn in 1931 by British artist Claire Leytan when Gandhi visited London.
Bonhams said the picture is considered the only oil portrait of Gandhi.
He ruled a non -violent movement of resistance against British government in India, and his teachings inspired millions. Most Indians appreciate it as the “father of the nation”.
The portrait was made when Gandhi went to London in 1931 at the second round table to discuss constitutional reforms for India and resolve his self -government requirements.
According to Bonham, Claire Leytan “was one of the few artists who confessed to his office, and was given the opportunity to sit and draw his similarity several times.”
The works remained in the artist’s collection before her death in 1989 in the US, after which he was handed over to her family.
Bonham did not say who bought the picture, and it is unclear whether it would be exhibited.
