In Monday, July 21, Instagram Post, Carnat-Gonnerud’s friend shared that De Metz died on Thursday, July 17.
“Hey everyone, Nat Bestie Hannah here,” read the message. “With the heaviest heart I have to share the news with you all, from passing beloved husband Hannah Ian, on Thursday July 17, 2025. Ian tragically killed in a work accident.
The message continued, “Hannah and Ian’s families appreciate you all and your support During this tragedy. We continue to surround them with love and ask you about your thoughts and prayers. “
The upload included a collage of photos of the couple and funeral details for de metz. After sharing the news, Carnat-Gonnerud re-posted a fan tribute asking followers to “pray” for it.
“I have nothing to give right now but I have to say thank you,” Carnat-Gonnerud wrote through his Instagram story on Tuesday, July 22.

“No one goes out but everyone goes out because it happens 💍 🤵 ♂️,” he wrote through Instagram at the time, sharing an image of their Save the Date card.
Most recently, Carnat-Gonnerud, known for sharing posts about body positivity, shared Instagram video with De Metz on July 9. In the clip, the couple kissed.
Following the death of De Metz, the friend of Carnat-Gonnerud created a Gofundme to her with a goal of $ 72,000 CAD — which is about $ 53,000.
“With heavy hearts we share the passing of Ian de Metz, dear husband of Hannah Carnat-Gonnerud, son, brother, family member and friend,” read the message. “Ian’s sudden departure in a tragic accident in the workplace has left a deep space in the lives of those who knew him and loved him. As Hannah, her family and family Ian begins to steer this inconceivable loss, we rally around them to offer our love and support during this incredibly difficult time.”
The statement continued, “This fund has been created to support Hannah and her family with the many unexpected costs of losing a loved one including funeral expenses, time off work, travel and emotional pressure rebuilding on a daily basis.”
The message noted that De Metz was “known for his warmth, kindness and generous spirit,” noting that he “brought light to every room that went into it and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.”
“Now, it is our turn to carry some of the pressure to Hannah and his family, just as Ian would have done to any of us,” the statement concluded. “If you can give, any amount, large or small, it will go a long way. If you cannot give financially, consider sharing this page with others who may be able to help or who knew and loved Ian. Thank you for your support, love and prayers. With thanksgiving.”
