An “Azerbaijan Airlines” plane crashed in Kazakhstan.


A passenger plane with 67 people on board crashed in Kazakhstan, local authorities reported.

According to preliminary information, 25 people survived, 22 of whom were taken to the hospital, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan reported.

An Azerbaijan Airlines plane caught fire during a crash near the city of Aktau, but the fire has been extinguished, officials said.

It is not yet known what caused the crash.

There were 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board the Embraer 190 plane, the Ministry of Transport reported.

Flight J2-8243 of the airline “Azerbaijan Airlines” flew from the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, to Grozny, Russia. It was reportedly diverted due to fog.

The BBC has contacted Azerbaijan Airlines and Embraer for comment.
