Manchester United’s head, Ruben Amorim, believes that his side still has a job to do despite the end of the preseason with a victory against penalties against Fiorentina.
The United wrapped its summer accessories with a 1-1 draw on Old Trafford. The visitors reached the eighth minute, but the hosts were at a level shortly after thanks to a Robin Gonens’s own goal.
With no more goals in normal time, United triumphed in the shooting to lift the Snapdragon Cup.
Speaking to Mutv after the game, Amorim admitted that the performance emphasized the areas where the team must improve.
“Today was a hard party,” Amorim said. “It was important for us to get the feeling of playing Old Trafford. I think we had some difficulties, especially at the beginning of the first half and the beginning of the second half.
“They have a lot of mobility and we struggle to find the right time to press. But then we controlled the game and I think we had a lack of fluency in the game. We can do it better.
“But I think it was a perfect game to prepare -we need to improve in different areas we fight at times. But sometimes we have players who can play and lift the stadium.”
The United States have been significantly strengthened in the transfer window, carrying Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Diego Leon.
Both Cunha and Mbeumo were on the starting line against the Italian side. However, Amorim believes that there is much more to come from his new signings.
“I think they may be 50 or 60 percent of what they can do,” said Amorim. “I think, like any other team, we will improve during the season and they will be much better.
“At some point, I felt we needed because of the ones we fought without reference as a striker. We have a new player, so we will see.”
The Portuguese coach also suggested a healthy competition within the squad, at the moment the players to win their place for the crash of Arsenal through training performances.
“This is good, it is supposed to be the case, not like last season when we had to fight to put 11 players on the pitch,” said Amorim.
“This is normal, so I have to think and fight during the week so they can change their minds. I have an idea, but they can change their minds during the week.
“It will be tough (training before Arsenal). We try to organize a complete training week, so we will have two really strong sessions over time to work. Then we will break a little.”
