Two years ago, Hamas put the finish strokes to his plan on Israel. In Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Palestinians were a problem. The real threat, he insisted, was Iran.
The rhetoric of Netanyahu, who was opposed by Hamas, was unlucky, but he also gave Qatar’s permission for the funnel of money in gas. This gave him a place for his real priorities in foreign policy – to resist Iran and finding a way to normalize relations with Saudi Arabia.
In Washington, then President Joe Biden and his administration believed that they are close to the transaction between the Saudi and the Israelis.
It was all a number of illusions.
Netanyahu refused to set up an investigation to consider the mistakes he made with his army and security chiefs, who gave Hamas the opportunity to attack such a deadly influence on October 7, 2023.
The long -standing conflict between Jews and Arabs to control the earth between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea was an unresolved, jerking and quickly exploded into the war, which appears to be as follows as its other landmarks in 1948 and 1967.
The Middle East has been turning since October 7, and for almost two years the conflict in Gaza has been in other place of spike.
It was a hard war for reporters who reported.
They were surprised on October 7, when Hamas attacked, and since then Israel has banned international journalists in Gaza. Palestinian journalists inside the lane did a valiant work, and almost 200 were killed while doing their job.
But the key facts are clear. Hamas committed a number of war crimes in the attacks he started on October 7, killed by 1,200 people, mostly Israeli civilians. Hamas took 251 hostages, of which maybe 20, which are still kept in the gas, are considered alive.
And there is obvious evidence that Israel has committed a number of war crimes since then.
The Israeli list includes starvation of civilian residents, the inability to protect them during hostilities in which the Israeli forces killed tens of thousands of innocent, and the groundless destruction of entire cities in such a way that it is not in proportion to Israel’s military risk.
Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister are the subject of arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court. They insist on their innocence.
Israel also condemned the legal process in an international court, which claims that he is performing genocide against Palestinians. Israel denies allegations and claims that they are anti -Semitic “blood”.
Friends ended in Israel. Allies, which rallied after October 7, Hamas’s attacks lost patience with Israel’s behavior in Gaza.
Even the most important ally of Israel, Donald Trump, is reportedly losing her patience with Netanyahu after he was surprised when the Israeli leader ordered the bombing Damascus – attacks on a new regime of Syria, which Trump recognized and encouraged.
Other Western allies of Israel ended the patience of the moon ago.
Another joint statement condemning Israel’s actions was signed on July 21 by Foreign Ministers from the UK, most of the European Union, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. They used strong words to describe civil suffering in gas and Disadvantage and Deadly Aid Distribution System Managed by the Humanitarian Gaza Fund (GHF) This Israel introduced to replace the proven and reliable methods used by the UN, and leading global assistance groups.
“The suffering of civilians in Gaza reached new depths”, said in a statement.
“The model of delivery of the Israeli government’s assistance is dangerous, nourishes instability and deprives human dignity gas.
“The refusal of the Israeli government in the main humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable. Israel must fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian legislation.”
David Lami, the British Foreign Minister, adhered to a joint statement with one of him, using a similar language, in the House of Commons in Westminster.
It was not enough for deputies who want strong words to be backed up by strong actions. One told me that the government’s unwillingness was more resolute. At the top of their agenda is the recognition of the Palestinian state, which has already been made by most members of the United Nations. The UK and France discussed it together, but it still seems that time is not right.
The Israeli Parliament, known as Kneset, is located a few days from a summer break that will last until October. This means that Benjamin Netanyahu will rest from the threat of voting without confidence by extremist nationalists in their coalition who oppose the ceasefire in Gaza. His reluctance to negotiate a truce is the result of their threat to throw their government. If Netanyahu lost power in the election, his reckoning day on October 7 – as well as at the end of his long trial, will be held to him.
The ceasefire looks more possible, the likelihood of survival for civilian residents and for Israeli hostages who have been imprisoned by Hamas for so long.
None of this means the conflict will end. The war led her to new depths. But if there is a ceasefire, there will be another chance to move from murder to diplomacy.
I will participate in the discussion tonight in the BBC Today program, studying what you need to make this war.
