Saturday Night Live enlisted a host of Hollywood A-listers to host episodes of its milestone 50th season.
Jean Smart the season started in September, making it SNL debut alongside a musical guest Jelly roll.
“I can’t tell you how privileged I am to host the first episode of season 50,” said the Hacks star gushed in his opening monologue. “It’s really amazing to be here. I haven’t dressed up and had hundreds of people clapping for me in days.”
He added, “I remember watching the very first episode of SNL and thought, ‘Someday, I’m going to host that show.’ And it’s the first Saturday to work with my schedule, but it’s great to be here in New York.”
Saturday Night Live completed season 49 and began its landmark 50th season in 2024, delivering a series of viral cameos and sketches along the way. Weeks later, Ariana Grande took over the emceeing duties. While she made a quick impression on viewers with a variety of musical skits and kiss on camera with Wicked costar Bowen Yang“Domingo” stole the show.
Grande portrayed a bridesmaid in a wedding reception sketch, where she and a group of SNL the cast members sang a cover of Sabrina Carpenterin “Espresso.” In this version, it involved a bride’s liaison with Domingo (Marcello Hernandez) during her bachelorette vacation.
“It exploded,” a cast member Sarah Sherman he said on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon end of October. “When Ariana Grande did a bad song while interrupting practice, everyone was like, ‘Oh, this is funny.'”

Jean Smart: Chapter 1
As well as making Us laugh in every sketch, Smart also enlisted her Hacks costar Hannah Einbinder for surprise cameo on September 28. Together, Smart and Einbinder announced the second musical performance of Jelly Roll.
Nate Bargatze: Chapter 2
The comedian hosted SNL on October 5 with musical guest Coldplay, where he even starred in a sequel to his 2023 sketch “Washington’s Dream.” (He previously welcomed Bargatze SNL in October 2023 as part of season 49.)
Ariana Grande: Chapter 3
Grande was joined by a musical guest Stevie Nicks.
“Before I start, I want to make one thing clear tonight: I’m just hosting,” Grande said in her monologue. “I’m not going to make this about me. I’m going to have fun, take it easy and I’m going to keep it cheeky.”
Michael Keaton: Chapter 4
Keaton hosted for the fourth time on October 19 as Billie Eilish served as the musical guest.
“You know, when the show premiered in 1975, I was working on a very different show in Pittsburgh,” Keaton said in his monologue. “I was a personal assistant Master Roger’s neighborhood at WQED and in the 70s, actually, SNL a Master Roger it had a lot more similarities than you might think. Lots of puppets, tons of cocaine (and) whatever, Fred was a great guy. It’s everything you thought it was.”

John Mulaney: Chapter 6
At Mulaney’s monologue November 12he is gushed about life with at that time a 6 month old daughter Méi and a wife Olivia Munn. Later in the episode, reunites with a friend (and former cast member) Pete Davidson for musical sketch about the dangers of the NYC Port Authority bus station.
Charli XCX: Chapter 7
Charli pulled double duty on November 16, serving as host and musical guest. Her pièce de résistance included a sequence to Grande’s “Domingo”. set to “Hot to Go.” Fans were particularly excited that “Hot to Go” contained the same number of letters as “Domingo,” making the spelling section of the song work perfectly.
Paul Mescal: Chapter 8
Mescal paid homage to his film Gladiator II with an SNL fake on the December 7 episode, in which he sang in an imaginary musical prelude. He also rode on a broom like Cynthia Erivo in Wicked. (Gladiator II a Wicked hit theaters on the same day in late November.)
Chris Rock: Chapter 9
Rock, an SNL veterinarian, return to host the show on December 14. In a “Gallbladder Surgery” sketch, he reunited with Adam Sandler and they couldn’t stop laughing as Sandler sprayed Rock and the cast with fake blood.
Martin Short: Chapter 10
The former cast member returns to host the holiday show on December 21 alongside musical guests Hozier.
Dave Chappelle: Chapter 11
The comedian returned for the fourth time alongside the performer GloRilla.
