Thursday, January 23, beloved Today show weatherman Al Roker she joined the founder of Baked By Melissa Melissa Ben-Ishay in her kitchen.
The surprising duo match up to share Roker’s chocolate chip pancake recipe, which is a new cookbook, Al Roker’s Recipes to Live By.
“This is what’s cooking in your neck of the woods!” Ben-Ishay captioned the video, referring to Roker’s signature Today show a catchy phrase.
Going through the recipe step by step, Roker was his typical cheerful self making Ben-Ishay laugh several times.
When it came time to cook the pancakes, Ben-Ishay could be heard saying, “Look mom and dad, Al Roker is making pancakes in my kitchen.”
“They love you,” he told Roker, who replied with “surprise.”
“I feel like I’ve grown up with you,” Ben-Ishay added.
“That’s when you realize you’re old, when adults have grown up and go, ‘I grew up watching you.’ Well thank you very much!” he joked.
Ben-Ishay then left Roker with a controversial suggestion, adding salt to the pancakes after dousing them with syrup.
“Salt?” Roker asked. “Yes because salt brings out flavor,” Ben-Ishay explained, which blew Roker’s mind.
After taking a taste test of the finished pancake stack, they agreed they were “fork drop delicious.”
“Those are so good,” Ben-Ishay told an appreciative Roker, who joined in with his signature outro, “Love you. Bye.”
