In recent development, the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) has appointed Shubman Gill as the new captain of the Indian Testing Team, with Ris Habh Pant named his deputy. The main coach Ajit Agarkar revealed the motif of the Pant selection as a vice-chicer for the test series in England.
Shubman Gill was appointed captain of the 18 -members announced on Saturday, May 24. The batter on the right received the captaincy due to concerns about the Pace Bowler Jasprit Bumrah fitness. Ajit Agarkar described Gill as a leader to guide the Indian team through a transition period in tests.
Speaking at the press conference, Ajit Agarkar said that the consistent performances of Ris Habh Pant and the awareness of the game were key reasons for calling him vice-chic. Agarkar also added that the PANT experience will be valuable to support Shubman Gill and help the team advance.

“I mean, he is the Vice-Capitan. He has been one of our best batters in test cricket for the last four or five years; about 40 tests, I think. He has always had a great view of the game behind the collisions as a goalkeeper, and this experience is invaluable,” Agarkar said at the press conference.
“That’s why he is the Deputy of Shubman right now: he can support him with the whole experience he brings. He is an incredible player. We are obviously looking at players who can move the team forward in the coming years,” he added.
Rishabh Pant has been one of the best performers in India in trial cricket since 2020. He has played crucial at home and abroad. The Wicketkeeper-Bater has accumulated 2,948 runs in 43 tests at an average of 42.11, including six centuries and five years.
Above all, Pant has obtained hundreds in difficult conditions in England, Australia and South -Africa. He also played a winner of 89 during the historic victory of India in Gabba in 2021.
However, the recent form of Pant in IPL 2025 has been puzzling. He managed only 151 throws of 12 entries with a low average of 13.72. The left hand mixer aims to rediscover its best form in the longest format during the five -tested series in England from June 20.
Karun Nair has been remembered in the national part after his impressive Ranji Trophy campaign for Vidarbha. It returns almost eight years after its last appearance in the test in 2017. ABHIMANYU EASWARAN has also been rewarded for its household performances consisting of a place in the workforce.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have preserved their places as rhythm bowls. However, Mohammed Shami has been out of fitness problems. Ravindra Jadja, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav have included spinners.
Harshit Rana and Sarfaraz Khan, who were part of the recent India tour in Australia, have been abandoned. The point of view will be at the new leadership duo of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant.
