Young Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav will miss the upcoming white-ball series against England, which includes five T20Is and three ODIs, due to a back injury. Mayank Yadav is still recovering from the injury suffered last year and is unlikely to regain fitness in time to be considered for the T20I squad.
Yadav made his international debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh in October 2024. However, he suffered another injury after the series. He missed the T20I series against South Africa in November as well as domestic tournaments like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
According to a report by The Times of India, Mayank Yadav is still recovering from a back injury and is unlikely to regain fitness in time for the T20I series against England.
The 22-year-old has not been included in Delhi’s probable squad for their first match of the second leg of the Ranji Trophy, which starts on January 23 against Saurashtra. Yadav is expected to make a comeback during IPL 2025.
“He is suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He has not even been named among the probables for Delhi’s Ranji opener from the second leg against Saurashtra from 23 of January,” said a BCCI source. TOI
Mayank Yadav has been recuperating at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bangalore for the past few months. He last played a competitive match on 12 October 2023, in the third T20I against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.
The Delhi pacer started the IPL 2024 season while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants. The right-arm fast bowler consistently bowled at speeds in excess of 150 kmph, including a top speed of 156.7 kmph. However, his impressive run was cut short after just four games due to abdominal pain.
The Indian selectors are expected to announce the squad for the five-match T20I series against England in the coming days.
The provisional squad for the Champions Trophy and the three-match ODI series against England is likely to be decided after January 18-19 as the BCCI plans to seek an extension from the ICC, given the original deadline of 12 of January
“According to sources, the selectors are likely to pick the Indian team first for the five-match T20I series, which will begin from January 22 with the opening T20I in Kolkata. They may pick the side for the three-match ODI series India and Champions Trophy matches after January 19,” the report added.
The five-match T20I series will begin on January 22 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Chennai, Rajkot and Pune will host the next three matches, with the final match taking place in Mumbai on February 2. After the conclusion of the T20I series, the teams will play a three-match ODI series from February 6-12.
