Former KKR player, Pyush Chawla, has supported KKR’s decision to appoint Ajinkya Rahane as captain of the team for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chawla believes that Rahane has the experience of her side after leading in a domestic and international cricket before.
Deep Dasgupta, who became the cricketter, coincided with Chawla’s thoughts and feels that Ajinkya Rahane has played the role of captaincy perfectly. Dasgupta is confident of Rahane’s leadership qualities and supported him to do it for KKR.
Rahane was officially designated as Kolkata Knight Riders Captain a few days before the IPL 2025 began. While he has been appointed team captain, Venkatesh Iyer has been appointed vice-chapter of the team.

Pyush Chawla rests Ajinkya Rahane as KKR captain
During a conversation about Star Sports, Pyush Chawla spoke in favor of Ajinkya Rahane being named as the next KKR captain. The Indian expert considers that Rahane has the experience of leading India, which makes him an automatic choice for the role of captaincy.
“He (Ajinkya Rahane) seemed exceptional in the last two years while playing CSK. Apart from that, he has the experience. He has captured India and captured the franchise cricket,” said the former Indian spinner.
“The challenge for any team after the mega auction is to set their game XI. Even if you have preserved the nucleus, you have to set the remaining five or six players. The sooner they do, the better it would be for the team,” he added.
Rahane played Chennai Super Kings in two seasons IPL – 2023 and 2024. The Super Kings became the Champions of IPL 2023 and Rahane played an important role in the victory of his team’s title. However, their numbers immersed themselves at IPL 2024, who also had an effect on team performances.

“What can be said about Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy? He has shown himself. He played an excellent role as Captain even while capturing India. So there is no dilemma about the captaincy. I think Ajinkya is an excellent captain,” added the India exketlet.
Rahane has led India in 11 games between formats in which the team won 8 games. This also includes the parties of the Trophy of Borders-Gavaskar 2020-21, where India recorded a historic test victory at Australian Soil.
The 36 -year -old has been in charge of Mumbai at the red ball cricket for the last two years. He is also one of the most successful captains of the household cricket and has led in 25 games at the IPL.
Ajinkya Rahane’s IPL numbers
Ajinkya Rahane has excellent IPL numbers and has a great experience in the league. He has played 185 games and scored 4642 runs at an average of 30.14 and a strike rate of 123.42. In general, he has struck 2 hundred and 30 years in IPL.
He has played a regular role in the last two seasons of IPL while playing Chennai Super Kings. At IPL 2023, he scored 326 runs in 14 games to an average of 32.60 and a strike rate of 172.49. However, its numbers decreased by 2024, as it scored only 242 runs to an average of 20.17.
Rahane used to play as a workshop before, but he has been transformed into a medium -sized batter since 2023. It is versatile enough to play any role in the battle order, which is an asset for his team.
