Former Pakistan coach Mohammad Hafez supported the selectors’ decision not to include Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in the Asia Cup squad, and while talking on his YouTube channel, he said:
“Call (Babar and Rizwan) Key players would be wrong and unfair. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are not the key players in Pakistan’s cricket at this time. Key players are the ones who win games for Pakistan.
“If we look at the last year and a half to two years, the players who show a constant performance are Salman Ali Agha, Saim Ayub and Hasan Nawaz. Why not talk about them? They are the current players winning games for Pakistan,” he added.
Hafez said that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan should be seriously introspective and see where their careers go.
“I think Babar and Rizwan have to be worried about their positions on the team. They must prove -as good players first; key players arrive later. Both were good in the past, but now they do not provide results,” he said.
“Both must be completely involved in the game; otherwise the results will not come. The same is true of Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi; they also do not give Pakistan’s winning performances,” he added.
Mohammad Hafez also urged the selection committee to identify and support talented players who can serve the country for the next 10-15 years.
“We should focus on players who can contribute over the next 10-15 years. Our media criticizes one or two players and there are one or two, which is wrong. We have to talk about those who really act. If we want to improve the Cricle of Pakistan, those of the Ca Rooms and those who execute plans on the field must treat these problems quickly.”
