Aston Villa has the command of its Champions League last-16 with the Brugge Club after a bewilder of self-destruction on the Belgian side gave Unai Emery’s men a 3-1 first edition victory.
Villa had taken the lead through the third minute effort of Leon Bailey, only for the Belgian reigning champions to respond nine minutes later through Maxim de Cuyper.
After destroying Atalanta in the Playoff round, Brugge continued in the ancestry after leveling the affairs and achieved multiple opportunities to make an advantage in Villa Park next week.
But the Belgian reigning champions now do everything after Brandon Mechele passed to his network and Marco Asensio confidently turned a penalty to put Villa on the edge of the quarter-final tie with Liverpool or Paris Saint-Germain.

Villa scored since the first opportunity of the game, while Bailey met Tyrone Mings “Knockdown of the free lack of You Tielemans with an excellent end for the first time beyond Simon Mignolet and the lower right corner.
Mignolet denied Marcus Rashford when Villa tried to duplicate his advantage, but soon they were hooked again, with goalkeeper Emi Martinez maybe to blame.
Christos Tzolis picked up the ball on the left and had the time and space to choose from Cuyper, whose left shot had enough to overcome Martinez’s extended hand.
Martinez redeemed with excellent savings by Chemsdine Talbi to preserve parity as Brugge grew in confidence before half the time.
A frustrated Emery made four changes in the 64th minute with the aim of fighting the impulse, and only the reflexes of Mignolet prevented one of Villa’s substitutes, Matty Cash, to put them in front.
But Brugge continued to dictate the procedures, with Hans Vanaken seeing a distant head in some way drifting before Tzolis exploited high, spacious and not very handsome after being cleaned on the goal.
Brugge finally paid the price for his prophet, as Mechele showed a much greater advantage, though in the wrong end.
Own goal !! 🫣

Inadvertently converted the brilliant cross of Morgan Rogers beyond an desperate Mignolet in the 82nd minute.
Worse came six minutes later when Asensio shot in the lower left corner from 12 meters after Tzolis fell into cash with a clumsy challenge.
Brugge had the opportunity to straighten the balance in the time of injury. However, substitute Hugo Vetlesen summed up an evening for the hosts when he fell to make sure that Villa will go to the Midlands with a potentially decisive advantage of two goals.
