He said earlier this week that On it attacked Israeli settlers Prior to the detention of Israeli military. He was later released.
The Academy initially responded to the incident on Wednesday, but she did not refer to Mr. Balala, which led to Hollywood care.
The statement led to a rebuke with more than 700 members of the Academy voting. Those who signed: Mark Rufala, Javier Bardem, Olivia Colman, Hoaquin Phoenix, Emma Thompson, Penelope Cruz and Richard Ger. Directors Jonathan Glaizer and Ava Darably also signed it.
“It is necessary to recognize the film with the award in the first week of March, and then it will not be able to protect its directors in a few weeks,” the letter reads.
The letter noted how difficult it was to win the Oscar and the steep competition, which they faced to be recognized as the winner of the most prestigious pride in cinema around the world. It states that the film won without the typical expensive companies that most films pay to win the award.
“Earning for score is not just an attack on one director – it is an attack on anyone who dares not to postpone the witness and say uncomfortable truth,” the letter said.
On Friday, the Academy released a statement in which he called the director and apologized.
“We regret that we could not directly recognize Mr. Balala and the movie named,” the statement reads. “We sincerely apologize to Mr. Balal and all the artists who felt not supported by our previous statement and want to make it clear that the Academy condemns such a fight anywhere in the world.
“We refuse to suppress free speech under any circumstances.”
Mr. Balal was released a day after he was beaten by the settlers and then taken by the soldiers while in the ambulance, his co-director Yavval Abraham said earlier this week.
Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) denied this requirement. They said the three Palestinians and Israeli were detained on suspicion of “safety”.
