UP Warriorz has named the former coach of India and former assistant coach Abhishek Nayar as the new main coach before the next edition of the women’s Premier League (WPL). Abhishek Nayar replaced Jon Lewis as main coach of Warriorz ahead of the WPL 2026.
Jon Lewis served as the main coach of Warriorz for three seasons at the women’s premier. Well, Nayar brings great experience to the role, after working in different capacities both at the highest level and at the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Abhishek Nayar went to training after his retirement from the game in 2019. Ex -gant de Cricket de Mumbai has been a key figure in the configuration of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) coach since 2018 and also worked as main coach of Trinbago Knight Riders at CPL 2022.

His collaboration with Gautam Gambhir played a key role in the victory of the KKR 2024 IPL title and earned him the assistant coach of India. However, after his brief stage with the Indian Cricket team, Nayar returned to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the middle of the IPL 2025.

In the meantime, the COO Warriorz and the director of Cricket Kshemal Wainkar has welcomed Abhishek Nayar to the WPL franchise as the main coach. He praised Nayar’s strong career to help teams win the main title and players like Rohit Sharma and Kl Rahul to find his true mojo.
Kshemal Waingankar, CEO and director of Cricket UPW, said that Espncricinfo said that “leading Abhishek Nayar on board as the main coach, he feels like a natural and exciting step for Up Warriorz. When someone from Abhishek became available, he was a native who was not a creator.

Waingakar said, “Only in the last 18 months, Abhishek has been part of three winning campaigns in the championship, each with a different role, each leaving a lasting impact.
