The legend of South -Africa, with Villiers, stated that his former teammate of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), whipped Kohli, has faced undue criticism in recent seasons. De Villiers said that “outer noise” is placed from time to time under the skin of the old Indian pattern, adding that it does not necessarily affect its performance.
There is a growing curiosity on how Kohli will perform in the IPL 2025 season. Last year, Kohli faced criticism of his strike rate, with a notable scrutiny during the games against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur. RCB lost those games, which prompted the debate.
Ab de Villiers said that Virat Kohli has faced unnecessary criticism in recent seasons despite good performance with the bat. He said that the “outer noise” could have mentally affected Kohli. De Villiers shared that these external pressures also affected him during his game days.
“I feel like a shot has made unnecessary criticism over the last few seasons. I feel that he is beating incredibly well. There is no doubt that some of the exterior noises have influenced him a bit,” Villiers said during the star press room as he responded to a Hindustan Times consultation.
“We are all human, after all. There was a lot of foreign noise in my game days that had an effect on me, not necessarily my performance, but you think about it. You are only human,” he added.
Ab de Villiers said that players, including Kohli, often question their skills, their role in the team and if they should change their focus. The old cricket praised for its ability to overcome these mental struggles, especially in crucial moments.
“Are you going to your hotel room and think, I’m still good enough? Should I be here? Do I have to ask the coach to beat in a different position? Am I doing the right thing for the team? So turned, being a great man and only a human, he certainly has these doubts on his head.”
“But the only thing is that he has always had the ability to do it, when he matters more, crossing this line for his team, blocking everything and it’s time for business. You could see the focus on his eyes on the Champions League trophy.”
RCBs are one of three teams However, to win an IPL title despite being part of the league since 2008. The Bengaluru team has reached the finals three times (2009, 2011, 2016), but it was short. They reached the playoffs during the last edition, but were eliminated by the eliminator after losing to Rajasthan Royals.
For IPL 2025, RCB named Rajat skateboard as a captain. The squad includes key players such as Kohli, Phil Salt, Liam Livingstoneand Tim David, along with experienced as pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood. RCB will launch its campaign on March 22 against the defense of the Kolkata Knight Riders champions.
