The historic South African ICC World Test Championship (WTC) triumphs in Lord’s has brought joy and pride to the whole nation, ending his 27-year wait for a global male title.
After years of cord on the ICC tournaments, the Proteas finally broke the Jinx by defeating Australia in the WTC 2025 final by five doctors last week in the iconic Lord’s Cricket Land.
This emotional victory took place after almost three decades of nearby cords, including the 2024 T20 World Cup final, giving fans a reason to believe that the South Cricket National Team -Africa can now pour the Chokers label and to point out to a success more consistent in the future ICC tournaments.

However, the South Legend -African with Villiers believes that the work is not yet completed. Despite the historical triumph, the former captain feels that the test cricket still needs more attention and better programming to grow really in South -Africa.

Ab de Villiers told the SMOPAR podcast of the BBC World: “We have had some very disappointing and sad purposes for many campaigns, especially in the World Cups, but now it is time to start believing that we can do it -more often.
(This moment) will not be lost. It was too big and too special for all South South -African: it was a test game that no one will never forget. But yes, to some extent, something needs to be done. “”

According to the current calendar, Proteas will play only four test games in the next 16 months, two against Zimbabwe, who do not even count on the new cycle of the World ICC 2025-27 Test Championship, and two in India at the end of this year.
And most amazing is that the Proteas will not even play a home test game until October 2026, when they will again face the Australians. De Villiers has firmly stated that each test nation must have enough parties regularly to stay strong and fair.

Ab de Villiers explained: “I saw the calendar that came out for the next WTC cycle, and there is an improvement, but I still think there is a job that must be done there only to achieve it as consistent as possible and as fair as possible for all testing nations.”

De Villiers also requested a change in the WTC format. He suggested a longer cycle, like four years, to make it fairer and better planned. He also hopes that South -Africa will have more test parties in the future.
Although his next test is far away, De Villiers believes that the South Fan -Africans will remember this great victory and patiently wait for the next team’s test game.
He signed by saying, “Maybe a four -year cycle would be good. We did it in the past with one day international, why not in the test cricket would make sense, and it would give the organizers much longer to achieve a really well -balanced system.”
