Police are investigating after a Judge of the State of Georgia was found dead in a courtroom on Tuesday.
Effingham County sheriff’s deputies said in a release that they found State Court Judge Steven Yeckel, 74, Tuesday morning.
It seems that he ended his life by suicide together with a self-inflicted firearmthe sheriff’s office said.

His death is under investigation by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation perform an autopsy.
Authorities said Yeakel died sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Yekel, who was appointed to the bench two years ago Georgia Governor Brian Kemplost the election earlier this year.
His term was to expire on December 31, 2024.
In a statement, the Effingham County Board of Commissioners said they were “deeply saddened” by Yekel’s death.

“The Effingham County Board of Commissioners and staff are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Judge Steve Yeckel today at the Effingham County Courthouse, and our condolences go out to his family and loved ones,” they said.
