A secret cellar with artifacts found in the oldest Black School House in Virginia

Archaeologists at the University of William and Mary in Virginia released A piece of American story Tied to the oldest surviving school house for black children.

A secret cellar with many artifacts such as pencil fragments and decorations were found, the Associated Press (AP) reports.

The building belongs to Williamsburg Brestwho taught mostly enslaved students in the 1760s, using a religious basis to justify slavery.

Center William and Mary for Archaeological studiesTom Higgins said the basement “was probably dug shortly after the foundation was laid,” because it was not brick, AP reports.
