Do not fly your drone in an active fire. Although capturing video of the devastation may be tempting, it could prevent the bombers from doing their job. That’s exactly what happened in Los Angeles on January 9 when a drone collided with a “Super Scooper” firefighting plane. The LA Times reports.
This happened as LA battles its worst wildfire in history, burning thousands of homes and killing at least 10. The drone encounter forced the plane to abort its mission and touch down elsewhere for repairs. Pictures of the plane show a noticeable hole in one of its wings:
Police are now trying to find out who had the drone, the LA Times reported, and the incident is being investigated by the FAA. The LA Fire Department has warned that flying a drone during firefighting efforts is punishable by up to 12 months in prison or a $75,000 fine.
