The calendar of 18 NFL games “is not a guarantee”, says interim players from the Players Union

The temporary head of the NFL Players Association has not had conversations with the Commissioner of the Roger Goodell League on a transfer to an 18 -game calendar.

After expanding the season from 16 games to 17 in 2021, with the number of preseason games from four to three, the NFL will end with an 18th game.

In February, Goodell said a regular season of 18 games with only two preseason games “could be a possibility”, noting data that showed concussions at a historically low level in 2024.

Then NFLPA’s executive director, Lloyd Howell Jr., again pushed himself: “No one wants to play an 18th game. No one. Seventeen parties is, for many boys, too long.”

Another expansion in the season would require the NFL and NFLPA to renege the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, which does not expire until March 2031.

Howell left his position in Julysaying, “It is clear that my leadership has become a distraction.”

He was replaced by David White last month, with the temporary executive director who rejected the thought that a transfer to an 18 -party calendar is a previous conclusion after the expansion at 17.

White told The Associated Press: “The League has the right to come up with any problem they want at the table, and probably proposing what they are willing to give to receive what they want to negotiate, but we will see when this happens.

“We haven’t talked about it yet and it is certainly not inevitable and it should not be presented as such.”
