One of the most iconic tourist attractions in Lisbon, Gloria Phonikul, left the rails and crashed on Wednesday night.
At least 15 people were killed and 18 were injured, some critically said local authorities.
It is not yet clear what has led to transportation.
That’s all we know so far:
According to local authorities, the emergency occurred around 6:05 pm on Wednesday, near Lisbon Ausnid -to Libera.
More than 60 ambulances and 22 vehicles were deployed at the scene.
Officials said it was early to determine the cause of the incident. However, the Observer’s Portuguese newspaper reported that the cable was released along the railway route, causing it to control and encountered a neighboring building.
Images and footage from the scene showed overturned yellow transportation, which looked almost completely destroyed.
People could see how the smoke entertained the paved street.
The Portuguese ambulance service said at least 15 people were killed and 18 were injured.
Five victims were in a serious condition, the report said. The other thirteen, which included a child, were injured.
Mayor Lisbon, Carlos Maedas said the victims had been taken to the hospital.
Some of the killed were foreign nationals, the authorities said.
Since then, several people who were trapped at the scene have been released.
Gloria Funicular can move up to 43 passengers and is very popular with tourists.
It is unknown how many people were aboard during the collision.
Funicular is a type of rail system that allows you to travel up and down the steep slopes.
In Lisbon Funiculars are some of the most sought after tourist attractions. Bright -yellow vehicles are the most important means of navigation on steep, paved streets of the city.
Gloria Funicular – a railway at which the collision took place in 1885 and three decades later electrified.
It travels about 275 meters (900 feet) from the restoraders, the square in the center of Lisbon, to Bayra Alto’s colorful streets. The journey takes only three minutes.
Unlike traditional foods, two cars on Gloria Funicular work from the electric motors.
They attach to the opposite ends of the cable -carriers, which means that when one travels down, its weight lifts the other, which allows them to rise and at the same time descend.
