Chloe Chrisley was not officially adopted by Melt and Julie Chrisley Until just before they leave for prison, the family’s new docuseries reveal.
“The adoption never was finally done until perhaps a month or two before Mum and Dad left,” Holy savanna revealed during the premiere episode of The Chrisleys: Back to reality On Monday, September 1.
Chloe, who is now 13, is a biological daughter of Todd’s eldest son, Kyle Chrisleyand his former Angela Johnson.
“Once we found out she even exists, of course we wanted to be part of her life,” said Julie, 52, in the Docuseries from prison.
Chrisley’s family friend Bill Rawlings He explained that Kyle, who is now 34, was not “in a position to be a father.” Meanwhile, Savannah remembered how Chloe joined their family.
“Her mother lets us have her every other weekend. And then, every other weekend turns into every other week,” she said. “I will never forget her calling my parents one day, saying, ‘I need you to come and have Chloe. We have no place to stay and I can’t be slept in the car.’ She signed over custody completely.
According to Savannah, Todd “never ended” the rights of Kyle’s parents at first because he felt like “that’s my son’s daughter,” but he and Julie had no choice before they went to prison.
“My dad could never bring himself to do it and to terminate their rights, but they had to do so to secure when they left, that Kyle or Angela could not come back and get it,” explained Savannah. “Obviously, I was going to be left – she was going to be left in my care.”

While Todd and Julie were in prison, Savannah became a legal guardian Her brother Grayson, who is now 19, as well as Chloe.
“Savannah was forced to take up many when Todd and I left for the prison. Taking on Grayson and Chloe and the financial burden,” Julie said in a call from prison. “It was something he shouldn’t have had to do. But I’m so grateful that she’s ready to do it and I’m so grateful for her to do an amazing job on it.”
The couple were jailed for 28 months after being convicted of paying tax and bank and wire fraud payments in 2022. They were forgiven by President Donald Trump and released in May.
Lifetime Docuseries about the family offered some insight into the dynamics of Savannah and Chloe at home.
“You’re a teenager and your room is a mess,” Savannah told Chloe while making her hair in one scene. “Your attitude is not right.”
Chloe noted that she could not “behave as life is normal” with cameras in her face – and when Todd and Julie were gone.
“We have to make the most out of a really catchy situation, right?” Savannah said. “And your hair is a mess.”
