The European Union (EU) said on Monday that Russia was suspected of pinching the GPS plane, which was transported by the European Commission President Ursul von der Leyen on Sunday.
“We can really confirm that GPS has taken place, but the plane landed safely in Bulgaria. We received information from the Bulgarian authorities that they suspected it was related to Russia’s brazen intervention,” the European Commission press on Monday said.
“Of course, we also know the threats and intimidation, which are regular components of Russia’s hostile behavior, and of course it will only strengthen our unwavering commitment to increase the possibilities of defense and support of Ukraine,” the press -secretary added.
A press secretary said the incident emphasized the need for urgent investment in European defense and security.
Von der Leyen was on a plane, a co -founded European Commission, the EU said. The Bulgarian government on Monday issued a statement reported by Sky News, which stated that “the satellite signal used for the GPS aircraft was broken.”
“When the plane was approaching the airport, the GPS signal was lost,” the statement added.
