UN Secretary -General Antonio Gutteres called for an “immediate and unconditional issue” of 11 UN staff arrested by Huti authorities in Yemen.
Employees were detained by security forces as a result of the raids under the Nutrition Program (WFP), the UNICEF Children’s Charitable Organization and the World Health Organization (WHO), news agencies and the UN.
On Sunday, raids in the capital, Sana and Port Sitta, UN Hans Grundberg, have taken place in the capital.
Grundberg said 23 other UN workers have already been conducted in Gutea.
Huti authorities did not commented on Sunday’s arrests.
A statement on Sunday, Guteres, said that “at least 11 UN employees are strongly condemning (s).” He also condemned that, he said, he was forced accession to WFP and other UN premises as well as the capture of property.
It is unclear why Guta is directed to UN workers. Staff and assistance employees provide a decisive lifeline for ordinary Yemen, whose countries have been suffering one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world for many years.
One of those who had previously arrested died in detention earlier this year, Grundberg said.
In the last three years, Houthis has also been detained by about 20 US staff members.
“Despite the sustainable interactions and guarantees that have sought over the last year, the arbitrary detention of UN staff, NGO workers and civil society continues,” Grundberg said.
“These actions greatly interfere with the broader efforts to assist and promote peace in Yemen.”
Earlier this year, the UN suspended all the movements in Yemen, which were detained in Huti after the detention of a number of his staff.
Recent arrests came against the backdrop of heavy tension after the Israeli attack killed Prime Minister Huti and other high-ranking officials on Thursday.
The attack was the biggest blow to Israel’s Hussites, as he began to take revenge a year ago against the rocket attacks of the Hussites. The movement shoots in Israel since November 2023 in support of the Palestinians in Gaza, where Israel has been waging a war with Hamas.
The group supported by Iran has controlled the capital and northwest of Yemen since the displacement of an internationally recognized government in 2015 during the Civil War.
More than 150,000 killed and caused a humanitarian catastrophe. About 4.8 million people were moved, and 19.5 million – half the population needed some kind of help.
