William Scull offers Canelo Alvarez a “probability of 75%” of defeating Terence Crawford on September 13 in his clash at Las Vegas Allegiating Stadium.
The former IBF Champion Super Middleweight, Scull, says that Canelo’s natural size and experience give him an advantage over Crawford (41-0, 31 kos). He claims that Crawford, 37, is at a disadvantage with him who went from weight after a single fight to 154 to challenge Canelo (63-2-2, 39 kos) to 168 for his indisputable championship.
Scull knows how to fight Canelo, after losing a unanimous decision of 12 rounds earlier this year on May 3, 2025, in Riyadh. At 6’2 ″, the Cuban scull was in size, the speed of the hand and the punch to force Canelo to fight more cautiously than it usually does. I think Crawford does not have the speed of the hand, the power, the mobility or the combined punch capacity that Scull had, which would cause him to hesitate to walk down.
“Canelo arrives a couple of kilos down and Crawford comes to fight Canelo. Maybe if Crawford had a fight in 168, he would have gained a little more experience in this weight. But entering this weight, it could be a problem,” said ex -medium IBF champion, William Scull Fight Hub TVGiving his reflections on the possibilities of Terence Crawford to defeat the indisputable superbalman Alvarez champion.
Crawford’s decision to put the size without trying it with a 168 tune could hurt his chances of winning. He had his reasons not to use the time he had to fight to warm up in Super Middleweight. Sebastian Fundora, champion of WBC Junior Middleweight, believes that it was a mistake for Terence not to get an experience in 168 before fighting Alvarez.
The weight class factor
“Canelo would take him out before the twelfth round. I would be surprised that Crawford won this struggle. There is a disadvantage in terms of weight classes. If there was no, it would be a 50-50 struggle. This struggle in this class of weight definitely benefits Canelo. I say there is about 75% of Canelo’s probabilities,” said Scull.
The variables that Scull overlooks are Crawford’s age and inactivity. Size is not the only problem that could prevent Crawford from winning again. It is its age, combined with the chronic inactivity it has had for the last four years, since 2021.
Terence is 38 years old on September 28, and this is not young for a fighter who comes out of a 13 -month dismissal and spend two classes of weight. It would have helped if Crawford had moved to 168 and fought a couple of contestants a year outside the ring. This would not yet have helped Crawford with his age. He would still be a 38 -year -old young man.
“Crawford, though it seems stronger, really gets into weight. You can go in and out, which benefits Crawford against Canelo. The main one here is not being in the middle of the ring because Canelo will have the advantage. It will be stronger,” said Scull.
Crawford’s power can increase with the weight it has, but will it be enough to keep the Canelo? This is the question. Canelo will be in attack with his own heavy shots, and this is where Crawford could have problems.
