Ryan Lochte comes clean for his journey with sobriety.
“I wanted to share some positive updates in my life and what’s happening,” shared Lochte, 41, through Instagram On Friday, August 29. “I’m so happy at the moment, and the big reason is that I’m 54 days sober. Yes!”
According to the OlympiadA serious car accident in 2023 left him in a “very dark place” where he proved “depression, loneliness and feeling that I quit in life.”
As a result, Lochte said he “led me down a road of substance abuse. With everything happening in my life, I needed to make a change.”
“I checked myself to a recovery center in Florida,” continued Lochte. “The staff have been amazing. They helped me realize that substance abuse is not answering. Only distraction makes things worse.”
Now, the gold medal winner feels “so much better” and “think clearly.”
“I’m motivated and I’m moving on,” he said. “I wanted to share this with you guys, especially my fans, because you’re so important to me. In life, you’re going to get hit or hit a road barrier. … that’s not how you get out. This is how you get back.”
In June, Lochte faced another big life change when his wife was Kayla Rae Reid. filed for divorce After seven years of marriage. The couple share three children: Ciden, 8, Liv, 5, and Georgia, 2.

“I want people to understand that Molly didn’t take me away from my ex-wife,” Lochte told the Daily Mail on July 7. “She didn’t take me from my children. We got a divorce I left. I moved down the street because I wanted to be in my children’s lives and I will always be in the lives of my children.”
As Lochte progresses with his divorce, things seem stronger than ever with Gillihan.
“Happiness looks good on me,” he wrote through Instagram On Thursday, August 28, while causing his girlfriend. “Can’t hear the external noise 😉 All smile with you even through obstacles thrown at us. ❤️❤️❤️ @mollygilli #springfield #peaceful.”
The swimmer also encouraged anyone who goes through a personal struggle in his own life.
“I get better myself every day, so if anyone out there is struggling, you know you’re not alone in this,” shared Lochte through his latest Instagram. “It happens to good people and there are people out there who are worried about you.… Let’s do this together.”
